Yichang Overview
Yichang is located at southwest of Hubei province, and is a prefecture-level city in Hubei province .Yichang lies where the middle and upper reaches of Yangtze river meet , and is the place where the magnificent Three Gorge Dam located.Yichang covers 21,000 square kilometers with a population of 4.15 million in which 1.33 million are urban people.Yichang lies at the intersection of Hubei, Chongqing and Hunan province ,and is also know as "gate of Three Gorge Dam" ,"throat of Sichuan and Hubei province". For its specific location, Yichang has long been the major transit port and distribution center of goods.

Yichang is an ancient city with a history over 2700 years, and was a famous battlefield throughout the Three Kingdoms Period. Yichang is also considered as the cradle of ancient Ba culture and the birthplace of ancient Chu culture. Yichang is the home town of first great Chinese poet with record, Qu Yuan, whom people commemorated on Duan Wu Festival. The Yangtze River runs through this city, creating many natural scenic spots along its path. The magnificent Three Gorges Dam locates on the Xiling Gorge, thus Yichang is also known as "pearl of Three Gorges". Besides Three Gorges Dam, there is another dam, Gezhouba Dam, which generates 15.7 Billion GWh of electricity annually.
